I have been a Tank main for years
I've been the tank main for many years but this marks the first time that I've switched to DPS. It's a bit of a change "tank abuse" as described isn't that much more than what it was over many years. However, I'm getting tired of being a victim of entitled players each time I play.
Always having cooldowns for dps pop up or consumes and then explode before I even touch an enemy. Then I'm promptly informed of how terrible tank I am since I didn't think of a mob pack running away from me in mid-charge. You're criticized for not tanking in the exact way the healers and dps would like you to. They often get ahead of you, pulling larger mobs (usually in error) often wiping the group . They blame the tank as if it didn't possess cooldowns, or being in place to handle mobs they did not even take.
This happens to be the NORM for conduct in dungeons too.
It's true that the majority of us who have been in tanks for a while are aware of EXACTLY the way we're working.
If I'm pulling slowly or differently , it's because of some of the causes:
Dps is less than normal.
I'm waiting for the required cooldowns to complete (usually require 7 to 5-7 seconds).
Healer can be a little slower in upkeep or distracted.
I'd like to drink a sip of water.
I'd like to pull one pack as I am sure I will pull 3 or 4 packs when an offensive cooldown is completed.
One of the party members whispered me that they were in the moment.
I am seeing the signs of a pat approaching and am unsure if the dps can take out mobs in the current game quickly enough.
I'm not 100% certain about pulling because I am severely outnumbered by 1-2 dps for the group.
The following 1-2 packs are mostly magical damage, and I don't have the proper mitigation for many packs of them.
One of the group members informed me prior to the start that they're new.
My daughter's nose dived off the bunk mattress.
My wife lost her keys and could not enter at the entrance to the house.
The list could continue for a long time. In general tanks are required to handle the entire race and everyone else will respond to the way it is executed.
