The Madden NFL franchise has long been the definitive video game representation of professional football, but the series has often struggled to fully capture the depth and drama of the NFL experience beyond just the on-field action. With the release of Madden NFL 25 on August 16, developer EA Tiburon is aiming to change that, putting a major emphasis on immersing players in the full breadth of the NFL life cycle.
At the heart of this effort are two of Madden's most popular and longstanding modes: Franchise and Superstar. Both have received significant overhauls in Madden NFL 25, with the goal of making players feel more deeply invested in the careers and storylines of their teams and individual athletes.

As the owner's right-hand man, Looman will provide regular updates, offer advice, and even push back on certain decisions in an attempt to shape the direction of the franchise.
In addition to the Looman character, Franchise mode features an overhauled player registration and scouting system that aims to make the annual NFL Draft a more immersive and important event. Detailed storylines and personalities have been assigned to top draft prospects, providing a richer context for evaluating talent and making tough choices on draft day.
Meanwhile, in Superstar mode, the focus is on elevating the individual player experience. In previous Madden games, players could create a custom athlete and guide them through the journey from high school prospect to NFL superstar. But Madden NFL 25 takes that concept to the next level with an expanded set of role-playing elements.
Perhaps most significantly, Superstar mode now features a robust set of story-driven scenarios that will unfold based on the decisions the player makes. Things like pre-draft interviews, contract negotiations, and interactions with the media can all influence how your career plays out, with multiple potential outcomes for each situation.
With these sweeping changes to Franchise and Superstar modes, Madden NFL 25 is aiming to deliver the most comprehensive and immersive football simulation experience to date. By blending deeper role-playing elements with the series' trademark gameplay, the developers hope to give players a true taste of what it means to be an NFL team owner, general manager, head coach, or star player.
