1. What Are "Shooting Stars"?
Shooting Stars are a special event where a star crashes somewhere in OSRS, allowing players to mine it for Stardust. This Stardust can be spent at Dusuri's Star Shop in Falador for various useful rewards. The stars crash every hour and can land in one of 76 possible locations across the game world.
Stars come in tiers, with higher tiers requiring higher Mining levels to mine. Each tier depletes gradually, meaning if you are not able to mine the higher-tier parts, players with higher Mining levels will deplete it to lower tiers, where you can mine it.
For example, a Tier 7 Crashed Star requires 70 Mining, but you can start mining when it depletes to Tier 5, which requires only 50 Mining.
2. Shooting Star Mining Setup
To maximize your Mining XP and rewards from Shooting Stars, here's a recommended setup:
Gear:
Full Prospector's Outfit - This provides a 2.5% XP boost to your Mining.
Amulet of Glory - Boosts your chances of mining gems and also helps in teleportation.
Celestial Ring (optional) - This boosts your Mining level invisibly, aiding you in mining higher-tier stars.
Best Pickaxe - Depending on your Mining level, choose the highest-level pickaxe you can wield.
Inventory:
Gem Bag - To store gems as you mine, saving space in your inventory.
Stamina Potions - To avoid fatigue and speed up your movement.
Teleportation items - Bring teleport tablets or runes to move efficiently across the world (e.g., House Teleport Tabs or Rune Pouch for quicker travel).
The Celestial Ring is available for purchase from Dusuri's Star Shop, and it can be used to increase your Mining efficiency, giving you a chance to mine additional ores.
3. Tracking Shooting Stars
Tracking the location of Shooting Stars is crucial for reaching them before anyone else. You can track them through various methods:
Player Owned House (POH):
Telescopes built in your Study room allow you to track the approximate location and time window for a Shooting Star crash.
Oak Telescope: 44 Construction, 24-minute tracking window.
Teak Telescope: 64 Construction, 9-minute tracking window.
Mahogany Telescope: 84 Construction, 2-minute tracking window.
Friends Chat: Join the Star Miners CC, where players call out where they've spotted a Shooting Star, helping you track it more easily.
External Websites: Websites like 07. gg offers a Shooting Star tracker that shows real-time locations and times of current Crashed Stars across all worlds. This tool can be a game-changer for quickly locating stars.
4. Mining Shooting Stars
Once you've tracked a Shooting Star, head to its crash site. The stars come in tiers, with higher-tier stars offering better rewards. Here's what to keep in mind:
Stardust Collection:
You earn 32 Mining XP for each piece of Stardust you collect.
Depending on your Mining level and the star's tier, you can earn 25,000-30,000 XP/hour and 1,000 Stardust/hour.
If you're the first to discover a star, you get an additional 300 Stardust.
Tier Mining:
A star will start at Tier 9 (requires 90 Mining) and deplete over time to lower tiers. You will need to mine through several layers of the star, and each tier will last 7 minutes.
If you're not high enough level to mine the higher tiers, you'll have to wait for it to deplete to a level you can mine.
Gems: Players often bring a Gem Bag to collect gems as they mine. These can provide additional profits, especially if you're wearing an Amulet of Glory, which increases your chances of mining gems.
5. Shooting Star Rewards
The Stardust you collect from mining Shooting Stars can be spent at Dusuri's Star Shop in the Mining Guild. The rewards include:
Celestial Ring (2,000 Stardust):
Provides an invisible +4 Mining level boost and a chance to mine extra ores, boosting efficiency.
Star Fragments (3,000 Stardust):
Used to cosmetically upgrade the Prospector's Outfit to OSRS gold, which doesn't affect stats but gives a stylish look.
Bag Full of Gems (300 Stardust):
Grants you a random assortment of 40 Gems.
Soft Clay Pack (150 Stardust):
Provides 100 Soft Clay, which can be useful for Crafting and Construction.
Conclusion
Shooting Stars offers a fun and low-effort way to mine Stardust and gain Mining experience. With the right setup and efficient tracking, you can make the most of this activity. Whether you're after the Celestial Ring, star fragments, or simply want to level up your Mining, this distraction offers great rewards. Happy mining, and be sure to keep an eye on those stars!
